CHINDEU VIRTUAL LIBRARY

CHINDEU VIRTUAL LIBRARY

The movement of people between Europe and Asia created commercial, cultural and informal relationships. Out of these contacts have developed new ways of being, in finance, culture, religion, language and heritage, creating major impacts on the societies. A tangible result of these contacts is the objects that have been transferred, both ways, over the centuries often by individuals. As a result, there is frequently no way to identify the exchanges so both the objects and their context are lost. European collections in China and India as well as the Chinese and Indian collections in Europe are evidence of the value of these connections, both past and present.

The CHINDEU project aims to identify the objects and re-establish their value as a record of our common heritage, so building the future upon the past connections.

The virtual Library

A shared library in many languages, many scripts, with written, image and audio resources. It encompasses our common heritage of written and graphical documents, currently preserved in three major cultural areas.

The library brings together the results of identification and listing of this heritage, though the efforts of CHINDEU.

This powerful tool results from, and enables further, collaboration between the holding institutions, universities and cultural organisations, for the benefit of the public in the regions explored by the project and users across the world
